The Consolation Prize

"The Nightingale and Other Short Fables" lauded at lunch as "sublime, magical, and transformative" with comparison to early Julie Taymor's wonderfully creative  use of music, lighting,

and  puppetry...  I rush home after my afternoon appointment and awake from a power nap just in time to stand on the cancellation line of a sold out show...Only two performances left!  Having claimed the last available seat on a cushion, I sit cross legged eagerly awaiting a puppet show. It wasn't until a dialog about candles brought Geoffrey Rush on stage did I realize I was in the wrong theatre...at that moment Geoffrey Rush made clear and direct eye contact and had me completely enthralled the remainder of the evening. To be practically on the stage with actors who have such beautiful command of as fantastic a production as "The Diary of a Madman" truly makes one believe in Wow!  It's not often the consolation is as good as, if not better than a highly anticipated prize.

The 23rd Annual Art Show

The ADAA's 23rd Annual Art Show. Well worth the contribution to the Henry Street Settlement. The Armory on 67th Street and Park Avenue. Well curated with lots of little treasures...5 sweet, delicate Cornells (Pawel Zoubok); A big booth with a charming little black and white Dubuffet; The Paces could do no wrong; Vintage Penn and Strand. Penn's Noguchi, Capote, and Dali stickered by lunch and two Strands literally off the wall by 5:00pm Thursday; Of interest is Adam Helm's manipulated found imagery at Marianne Boesky; A few stellar solo shows including Milton Avery at Knoedler and a refreshing body of Orozco at Marian Goodman. So glad it was about art and not celebrity.

Stars of Hope

Congratulations to The Hata Foundation and the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii for a successful inaugural event honoring attorneys Dyan Medeiros, Mihoko Ito, Rodney Ching, and Stephen Duck who have impressive histories as pro bono and family practice attorneys and for raising well deserved education funds for two beautiful and inspired children who have overcome many life obstacles at a very early age!

A special Mahalo to all those near and far who have made generous contributions in support of the 'Stars of Hope' dinner!
