Different Directions' "The Winds in The WIllows"

Kudos to the entire cast of Different Directions Inc.'s production of "The Wind in the Willows." Two casts treated audiences to four exceptional and very professional performances!

Different Directions' "The Winds in The WIllows"

Always last to leave the backstage dressing room is 11 year old, John Albert, who plays the well deserved lead of The Toad. As conscientious backstage organizing his many costumes as he is bringing life and imagination to his many characters on stage, John is definitely someone to keep an eye out for in any production.

When all elements fall perfectly into place, there is Chanel.

Not anywhere near the fashion world or Paris these days, but Chanel is still a sort of grown up Walt Disney for me...Karl Lagerfeld and his ready to wear designers held court with an absolutely exquisite show at the Grand Palais yesterday. Dotting the "i" was a live orchestra that transported this season's vision where only Chanel can travel to successfully. It's great to see the couture elements in ready to wear and to still see familiar faces on the runway mixed in with the "20" somethings.

Pina Bausch. "Vollmond."

Tanztheater Wuppertal is absolutely beyond! The energy and passion, from the first step onto the stage to the last splash of water, paid tribute to Pina Bausch in a way only Pina could have inspired. There was complete abandon in the glee celebrating the absurdity, humor, and angst in life that could happen only under a "Vollmond." It runs through October 9 at BAM. A definite Yes!

Mahalo!

Dear Friends and Supporters,

From the keikis of Hawaii, Mahalo!

We are a significant step closer to being able to offer consistent assistance to shelters throughout the island of Oahu thanks to your support of the Borders Books Shopping Days!

One of the foundation's exciting projects is on hold until we receive approval on a stove permit for the families at the Kaka'ako Shelter on Oahu.

This stove unit will serve the parents and young children in manufacturing "Energy Bars" to generate revenue to financially assist them in leaving the shelter system with the skills and confidence to sustain themselves as a family participating fully in the world at large. 100% of the profits will go directly to the shelter. The Kaka'ako Shelter offers very basic, no frills housing that is safe and secure and is fortunate to have the University of Hawaii and Hawai'i Pacific Campus Compact's tutor and mentor programs available to them.

I would also like to extend a special Mahalo to my cousin, Elizabeth Hata-Watanabe, who in addition to spearheading the energy bar project, baked her heart out to help fill several hundred "keiki backpacks" for the Hawaii Foodbank, while successfully carpeting the Nanakuli Middle and High Schools, the Waianae Civic Center, the Waianae Shelter, and several HUD housing projects!

As soon as the stove is approved, funding for the licensing and materials of the "Energy Bar" will be needed. I hope we will be able to count on your support in another (fun)draising project!

For more ways to lend your kokua and updates on what's going on in Hawaii please check in with:  www.thehatafoundation.org

Once again thank you for your generosity and support!

With much Aloha,
