Baseball Has Come A Long Way!
Yankees Bring World Series Trophy to Dominican Republic
The New York Yankees aren’t done celebrating. The world champions brought their World Series trophy on tour to the Dominican Republic for the first time in history, MLB.com reports.
Robinson Cano, Francisco Cervelli, Damaso Marte, senior vice president Felix Lopez and coach Tony Pena celebrated their championship with President Leonel Fernandez at the National Palace on Thursday, Jan. 7.
Fernandez recognized the significance of hosting the Yankees because so many Dominicans have been part of the team’s franchise. The president commended the team’s ownership under George Steinbrennerand praised the players for being strong role models in America.
"I feel very happy for living this moment together with you, who are great symbols in global sports," Fernandez told Dominican Today.
Lopez presented the trophy to Fernandez and gave him a New York jersey featuring his name and a No. 1. The team also signed a baseball and a crystal replica of Yankee Stadium.
John Kelly at Galapagos Art Center
An eighties newspaper portrait of Mr. Kelly is on my refrigerator door and I still find myself a willing audience member enchanted by his heart and poetry whether it be on the concrete sidewalks of the onetime Whitney in midtown or an actual seat at the Maison Du Culture Du Monde in Paris. Hope to see you in Dumbo on Monday!
